Star Trek Online Canceled
It is with mixed emotions that I report that Star Trek Online has been canceled. When I first heard that Star Trek Online was being developed, I was extremely happy. Who wouldn't want to play Captain Picard or Captain Kirk? However, when I learned of the cancellation of Star Trek Online on Tobold's MMORPG Blog, I have to admit that I was glad.
Why would I be glad? Well, to be blunt, Perpetual was doing everything wrong. There would have been nothing worse for the Star Trek franchise than to be attached to a failed MMO. We have had enough failed MMOs. Once I heard that perpetual was not incorporating the bridge experience into its game, I knew at that point that Star Trek Online would suck.
I hope that another developer will license this franchise and develop a really cool game. So bye for now Star Trek Online.

January 24th, 2008 at 5:18 pmI was actually looking forward to the game, because I have always wanted to play a decent sci-fi MMO after Anarchy Online. Oh well, I guess we have to wait.

February 5th, 2008 at 9:50 amI am not a big star trek fan boy, but this is sad news. I am sure it would have had the support needed. If what they were developing was as bad as it sound maybe it is better it got canceled. Too many crappy mmorpgs around…

February 10th, 2008 at 8:59 amI’m quite surprised about this, I’m sure it would have been a cash-cow even if it wasn’t very good – credit it to them for presumably seeing that the quality wasn’t there and not wanting to tarnish the franchise with it?

July 14th, 2008 at 4:07 pmAnarchy and Star Wars Galaxy were great MMORPGs that I’ve played, I’m disappointed that Star Trek is canceled like most people, but also happy that they didn’t just make it to make it and have a really crappy game. Hopefully one day we can all live the fantasy of being Captain Kirk!

September 11th, 2008 at 8:48 amYeah not having the bridge would not be cool. I’d want a tactical game where you spend at least half your time on the bridge organising things and the other half on dangerous away missions.
