Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Review

Dell has just released the new Dell Inspiron Mini 9 laptop.  The Dell Mini 9 is an ultraportable laptop designed to take on the Asus Eee PC and the OLPC. This article will share my thoughts on this Dell Mini and hopefully provide a solid Dell Inspiron Mini 9 review.  While this Dell Inspiron will not be a gaming laptop, it is pretty cool nonetheless.

This ultraportable Dell notebook costs just $349, and is perfect for someone who wants to be able to stay connected to the online world no matter where they are.  The Dell Mini 9 is perfect for anyone who wants to be able to instant message, blog while on the road, or just check email.

One of the coolest features of the Dell Mini is Dell's partnership with Box.net to provide 2GB of online storage. This is an awesome feature for an ultraportable laptop.  You can keep files to work on in the cloud and have access to them anywhere you can get Internet connectivity.

The Dell Mini has a Intel Atom Processor N270 that operates at a speed of 1.6GHz.  While this is not screaming fast, it is perfect for this Dell ultraportable laptop.  Another cool feature is its 4GB solid state hard drive.  For an additional $100 you can upgrade this solid state hard drive to 16GBs.  I think that is really worth the extra money.

What are your impressions of the Dell Inspiron Mini 9
?  How would you use this Dell ultraportable laptop?

I don`t know but IMHO in that money you can buy small Pocket PC with same capabilities.
And it will be much smaller and you can write same blog posts.

Box.net is nice but a 2 gb account at Dropbox.com is free. I like it better because the files are stored on your computer but auto synced to the cloud. I probably like it more because the files that I keep there are databases in the 30MB range. So that is not a selling point for me.

We like the mini-1000 (from HP) better.

I don’t know if we’re quite there in terms of netbooks’ ability/speed to handle serious top video games. Intel is coming out with some new chips that will change the video game market soon. Until then, unless you’re playing casual games, i wouldn’t declare netbooks ready for prime time yet.

The Dell Mini 9 is a nice netbook, but if gaming is what you want to do you should take a look at the Asus N10. It is currently the closest thing to a gaming netbook.
As for cloud storage, Google Docs is also a good place to store files.

Steven, nVidia is trying to get into the Netbook scene too! Also don’t forget the upcoming line of processors will be dual core; Intel N330 to perk them up…
