What to Look For When Buying a Gaming Laptop

What to look for when buying a gaming laptop is easy if you know a little about computers. I built my last two computers and this process really helped me to understand how to find a great gaming PC.

The memory or RAM is one of the most important elements of the gaming laptop. It makes things go fast.

This is also what you need for that instant messaging program so you can talk to your friends without the cam shuttering. Right now 1 gig is sufficient, which means before too long you will need 2 gigs. Each new game is trying to out due the other so the faster they go the better they are.

The dual processor was made with the gamer in mind. If that is out of your reach or budget make sure you have at least 2.0 GHz or higher. Anything else and most games will just drag.

The hard drive is pretty basic. All you need is enough to store your files on. Most gamers now have an external hard drive for this. If that is not an option, get one over 120 gigs and have the high speed ones that go 7,200 rpm’s.

The graphics card is what makes the difference. At minimum get the VGA card. If you can afford it get the NVIDIA geforce 8600 quadro FX series or better.

The display matter because you want to see what you are doing and enjoy all the cool graphics. This makes the laptop more expensive but it is worth it. If possible get a wide screen. This can then double for great movies.

Most laptops today come with Vista nowadays but in October 2009 windows 7 is hitting the market. Since most games utilize XP technology, Vista will be skipped so why bother.

Last is how many USB ports do you need. Mine has four and they are all in use. The more the better.
