How About a Time Machine MMORPG?

Is anyone tired of fantasy? I am not really tired of fantasy, in fact, it is my favorite setting. However, I am tired of all fantasy mmorpgs being the same. You have dwarves, elves, haflings, orcs and humans all battling on terrain that really hasn't changed much since the original Everquest. Wizards deal a lot of damage, fighters soak up damage, and rangers are always gimped, but people flock to them anyways.

It would be awesome to have a with the map being planet Earth and players can port to different times in history.  I want to fight in the Civil War, be a part of the mongul horde, join a Zulu tribe, experience czarist Russia.  While some creative developer would have to develop a storyline to tie all of this together, it certainly could be a game.

What setting would you like to see?

I would love to see an MMORPG based on the Doctor Who franchise. Obviously, you couldn’t have every player travel with the Doctor. But the game could set players up as Time Agents (like Capt. Jack Harkness) that go on missions and encounter iconic Doctor Who enemies (Daleks, Cybermen) and occasionally meet the Doctor and his Companions.

An original time travel based franchise would be great as well. The great thing about that type of genre is that you can really tell ANY kind of story. Historical epic, sci fi space opera, baroque horror, anything.

    Lars,

I have never watched Dr. Who. However, I know that it is a very popular IP and you might get your wish someday.

I would still love to see Dragonlance… I know… it is stil fantasy.

Maybe someone could do fantasy with a new twist. Change the playable races.Vampires, mermaids, selkies, sirens.

    Keen,

I would love to see an ancient greece mmorpg. That sounds like a cool idea.

    Adele,

Don’t get me wrong, I love fantasy. I look forward to new fantasy mmorpgs more than any others. However, they are kind of in a rut right now.

Like Adele, I am also a huge fan of Dragonlance. As for your time travel idea, I think something you might look into is Stargate Worlds, or more precisely watch some of the shows if you haven’t already. While they are on different planets the majority of the time, a great number of them are based on civilazations of the past on our planet. This could fill that role that you are looking for, and hopefully it lives up to most of the potential that it has.

I would love something themed after the tv show Voyagers. http://www.tv.com/voyagers/show/2751/summary.html
History has gone wrong and you have to set it right. It could also be educational.

Depends what you applied it to:

    - A future version of WoW? Maybe.
    - A past version of EVE? Perhaps.
    - A decent version of Matrix Online? Definitely not.

I was just thinking today about a doctor who MMORPG, would love one, or a blade runner MMORPG or at least blade runner esque, or total recall esque would be cool too

i remember voyagers! with fineas bogg and that annoying kid, would make a good game

Or even (and i think this would work really well) a mmorpg based on the tv series “Sliders”, i mean you could use the sliding wormhole to go to other worlds and there could be loads of ideas for worlds and things to do on them all, omg i’m a genius
