CEO Reviews Pirates of the Burning Seas

The CEO of Pirates of the Burning Seas just left an awesome review of his game on the Mystic Worlds blog. This is a fascinating read. It gives you the insights on how the CEO of PotBS feels about his game.

Most interesting to me are the technological challenges he cites. I am not too technical so sometimes I do not understand the technological obstacles that developers face. The CEO describes why they had to instance ship to ship combat and sword play. I hate this aspect of the game, but at least I know why they did it now.

I also enjoyed reading about the future changes PotBS is making to its combat system. They are making swashbuckling more difficult so that players learn more about the combat system. There has been a complaint that swashbuckling was too easy until higher levels. And that the lower levels did not teach you to use this system. I am glad to see that Pirates of the Burning Seas is changing this.

Will I play PotBS? Probably not. I just started playing Tabula Rasa and can't wait to play Warhammer Online.

Pirates of the Burning Seas Open Beta Begins

Flying Labs Software has finally dropped the Pirates of the Burning Seas NDA and is beginning the open beta. I am really anxious to play this game.

P0tsh0t and Keen and Graev's have written two great previews of Pirates of the Burning Sea. Here are some of the highlights from those previews.

Everything seems to be instanced in PotBS. Each building, town and battle is instanced.
Traveling on the open seas takes a lot of time. I am glad about this. I just hope that there is stuff to do when you are sailing on the open seas.
Ship combat seems like it is going to be like Microprose's Pirates. I can't wait for ship-to-ship PVP.
The leveling curve is said to be pretty fast. I like this especially for a PVP centric game. If you want to PVP, allow players to max level and PVP.

What Game Can’t You Wait to Play?

Hey all,

Please share with us the games that you can't wait to play. For me, I can't wait to play Pirates of the Burning Sea. The more I hear about this game the more excited I get. One of my favorite games of all times was Sid Meier's Pirates. As I think back on this game, the reason why I liked it so much was because it had many of the elements of an mmorpg. Now with Pirates of the Burning Sea coming out, I will get to experience this world with others.

Character Creation Video for Pirates of the Burning Sea

Here is a pretty cool video describing character creation in Pirates of the Burning Sea. Additionally, the video has some footage of sword fighting and a description of how melee combat will work.

I am really hopeful about PotBS' character creation system since it is modeled after City of Heroes' system. CoH has one of the best systems of any mmorpg. According to Pirates of the Burning Sea, you should never look like any other pirate in the game. AARRGHH!!

The Agency and Pirates of the Burning Sea Added to Station Pass

Sony has announced that The Agency and Pirates of the Burning Sea, upcoming mmorpgs that will be published by SOE, will be included in its Station Pass. Subscribers to SOE's Station Pass can access many of SOE's mmorpgs, including Everquest II, SWG and Vanguard, by paying around $30 per month. I am glad to see these two new titles added to Station Pass, however, I am not sure I will be willing to give up my second EQ2 account for the Station Pass.
