Over on Kotaku, there is an interesting article about Microsoft’s Xbox 360 only appealing to men. I found this to be a very interesting post because I have been thinking about buying a console system. In researching which console to buy (Xbox 360, Playstation 3, or Nintendo Wii), I have been thinking about what kind of games I want to play. More and more this leads me to buy a Wii.
I think that the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3 games are too realistic. Maybe it is just because I grew up on the Atari 2600 and Nintendo, but I am not sure that I want realistic for my console games. I want cool game play, not just graphics that say, wow this looks real. Don’t get me wrong, there are times that I want realism, but I think that I will stick with my PC for that.
I think that the Wii looks like the must fun of these three system. I have a 4 year old daughter and can envision playing these games together. I don’t want her to see realistic images of people dying. But it sure would be cool to play a game of tennis with her on my 50″ HDTV.
Do you have one of these console systems? If so, give me your reviews.
June 28th, 2007 — Warhammer Online
Here is the trailer for Warhammer Online. This trailer clearly shows that personality of Warhammer. Sure you have orcs, goblins, and dwarves, but it mixes in a little humor in the fantasy genre. I love it when the orc has just launched himself from a catapult trying to get into the castle. Instead of victoriously landing in the caste and slaughtering the inhabitants, he hits the wall. I am sure that the storyline in Warhammer will keep us entertained.
June 8th, 2007 — MMO, Warhammer Online
I read a post today from The Common Sense Gamer about not wanting to beta test Warhammer Online because he did not want to burn out on the game before its release. I feel the same way about betas. Do you think that betas are good for new MMOs?
There is nothing better than loading up a game for the first time. Everything is new. I love trying to figure out where I am and what I need to do. I love getting to see the landscapes and character models. However, these first impressions can be ruined by participating in a beta. If you get in early, the game performance can be bad, the art work unfinished and a lack of content.
Does this ruin people’s first impressions of these games? Is this good for the MMO industry? While it might be necessary to work the bugs out of the game, I certainly think that it comes at a very high price.
June 3rd, 2007 — EQ2, MMO, Two Boxing
My two box combo on Nagafen are progressing nicely. Nittanylion is now a level 20 monk and Tictac is an 18 warden. This is a very good combination for two boxing. Although, Nittanylion has 16 AAs at level 20 and this has helped tremendously.
My fights go something like this. Nittanylion pulls a mob and unleashes all of his combat arts. Then I start meleeing with Tictac. I also cast Tictac’s two direct damage spells, but so far it is not really that worthwhile because Nittanylion does so much more damage with each of his combat arts. However, I do not want to neglect Tictac. However, his main purpose is just to heal and buff Nittanylion. The wardens buffs help out tremendously, but I would love to see how a wizard and monk would do.
